Apple Nouveau by Jacinthe Apple Nouveau by Jacinthe
This is, I guess you could say, my tribute to the fantastic Alphonse Mucha, one of the premier artists of the (all-too-brief) Art Nouveau movement. There is absolutely no denying his influence on my work, and I was excited to go for an all-out blend of Mucha & me in this poster.

About the content, you may have noticed that most Art Nouveau posters advertised the most superfluous luxury items, like rolling papers and tiny chocolate cookies, usually being displayed Vanna White-style by a curvy and barely-clothed woman with luxurious locks. Well, I decided my modern-day unnecessary luxury item would be the Apple iPad. It's pretty unusual for me to be at all subtle or use visual metaphors in my work, but they're all there this time.

This took ages and was done in Photoshop CS5. Hope you enjoy.

EDIT: Thanks so much for the DD!

Art Nouveau and... Apple? by *Jacinthe ( Suggested by Hardrockangel and Featured by Thiefoworld )
Haha this is super clever XD I love the concept and the execution is pretty good. First I totaly agree with the contrast you brought up earlier--you could use a bit more of it overall. The colors are all pretty natural and nice but overall I don't feel like there's much of a a color scheme, there are just sort of a lot of colors everywhere....Although I like how the shading on the gown is blue which matches the sky (btw the flowers and cloth are freaking gorgeous) I would suggest for the whole contrast thing to not be afraid to use some black (mix it in of course) or some darker browns for the shades, also pulling some highlights out with some white or yellow could be nice. Now next is sort of a personal thing but I am really not big on how red you made the face/elbows/fingers, this is a style thing but making it so extreme makes it so she looks kind of drunk or sunburnt...anyways...Also I feel that her shoulders are a bit thick and muscular for a girl, and the reflection on the side of her face sort of looks like a beard (sorry @_@) Lastly having some line variation (thinner and thicker) could make the piece a bit more interesting (this could be style)....
Technically you are really good, its just a few things that you could work on ^^ I love the piece overall though and I was just really nitpicky :D

Hello Kyohei here well let us get started shall we :iconchallengeacceptedplz:. Positives always first, First impressions I love the coloration and designs of this piece. It hasd a warm and summery feel to it and I would love to nap under that tree, from what I see. :iconsleepingonionplz:

Now for the not so positive I have a suggestion for you I personally would have expanded the picture showing more of the tree and background. I like the flowers but the border between the flowers and the the picture picture I wouldn't have added that, not to knock on your work just personal opinion. Well I would have personally taken this picture in a whole other direction.

But still nice picture all together keep up the good work Jacinthe-chan :iconhandsomeonionplz: p.s. I honestly didn't know what to say about this piece just improvised my whole critique XD

I was taking my sweet time absorbing all the intricate details of this piece when my eyes suddenly spotted that iPad... Oh, how I giggled.
I've noticed that trend in Art Nouveau advertising as well, so I really enjoy the clever social commentary regarding consumerism in this piece.
Technically, the piece is also very well accomplished-- you've definitely captured the elegant, organic aesthetic established with the Art Nouveau style.

The only thing that's a bit off-putting is the pose of the woman's lower body. I see a short curve on her abdomen, which I assume represents her navel, and while I think that it lines up well with her reclined upper body, the position of her lower body is that of a person sitting upright. Now, I'm not the most supple person out there, but I think that most people (who aren't contortionists) would find it extremely difficult, if not impossible to pose in such a way.

Either way, the exaggerated pose is typical of the art style and doesn't detract too much from the beauty of the rest of the piece. :)

Haha, thank you. Yes, the exaggerated anatomy was intentional, though I've been told before I push it a little too far, sadly. Just another example of what pleases me not pleasing most people. =( Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback! I love it when folks take time to give the positive and negative.
